The view from 522: Football is back
Went to a football game on Friday night. Let's talk about it.
I have been refraining from writing — and talking — about the Steelers for most of the summer. Not because I don’t want to talk about them, and not because I am not interested in them or intrigued by their potential this season, but I just found the offseason discourse to be … kind of exhausting.
There are only so many teams you can debate the merits of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields before they actually play a game.
You can only discuss Mike Tomlin’s lack of playoff wins so many times until you keep repeating yourself with the same arguments for and against over and over and over again until you just want to bash your head into a wall.
There has to be something new happening or something to actually analyze at this point to hold my interest in them. Especially when the local baseball team kept things interesting for a few months before falling on their faces. I need football practice. I need football games. I need players actually doing something on the field in some context to change the narrative (or validate the narrative).
Well, we are finally at that point with training camp wrapping up and the first preseason game in the books. But even with that we are still dealing with hypotheticals and endless discussions about something that may or may not happen.
Let’s talk about my trip to the the Steelers’ first preseason game, the quarterback situation and … yes … Brandon Aiyuk. And more!
