The Pittsburgh Steelers needed quarterback change, and they made it
This is good.
When the Pittsburgh Steelers offseason officially began I wrote in this space that while I was fine bringing back head coach Mike Tomlin, they could not bring back the same quarterback situation and expect a different result. They had to get bold. They had to do something different.
The challenge was apparently accepted.
Not only have the Steelers changed their quarterback situation, they have changed the ENTIRE quarterback situation.
Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubiskey and Mason Rudolph are gone.
Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are in.
I would have been content rolling the dice on one of those guys and hoped for them to be an upgrade. The Steelers said why not both?
Now, their hands might have been forced on some of this. I do believe their intention was for Pickett to remain on the roster behind Wilson and see if they could still salvage his career. Either way, it is a whole new quarterback room and a whole new approach from a suddenly wildly aggressive Steelers front office.
And I like it.
I like the message is sending. I like the changes they are making. I like the situation a lot better than I did a month ago.
I do not think the Steelers have found their long-term quarterback, and until they do they are going to remain in this quarterback purgatory that might limit their overall ceiling in the AFC. I get that. But there is also nothing wrong with trying to make yourself better.
The Steelers have.
Let’s talk about all of this.
Everybody failed in the Kenny Pickett situation
