The best rule in hockey; Oilers duo have chance to be legendary playoff performers
They already might be. They just need the Stanley Cup to validate it all.
We can all probably agree that the standard of NHL officiating is not always the best.
Or even great.
In fact, it usually stinks.
It is inconsistent, they tend to call things based on the score and penalties that have already been called and rules seem to disappear come playoff time where “let them play” rules take over. It ruins the product, and with their attempts to “not impact the game” by calling too many penalties they still end up impacting the game — perhaps even more — by not calling any penalties.
That is why I make no apologies for loving the puck over the glass rule.
If anything, I have grown to love it even more with each passing season and every time it gets called in a big moment.
That rule/penalty ended up being brought back into the discussion this week when the Edmonton Oilers won Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final over the Florida Panthers on a power play that was the result of a puck over the glass call.
As soon as Leon Draisaitl scored the game-winning goal on the ensuing power play there were immediate reactions on social media about what a bad rule it is, and how it sucks to see such a huge game decided that way.
This is where we part ways.
Especially in this situation.
Let’s talk about it.
