When 2022 began I was working for NBC, and then in the middle of the year that all went south for reasons beyond my control. It impacted a lot of great people I loved working with and broke up the best hockey writing team in the business (but maybe I am biased. I probably am).
It was stunning, unexpected, and also at the same time very expected. If that makes any sense. I think it does. It was also a chance for a new beginning.
That produced the start of this Substack, and I can not even begin to thank all of you for reading and subscribing. It helped keep me in the game, on my feet, and even give me some added motivation at a time when I was maybe losing it. It also helped me sort of rediscover my love for this job.
Now I am writing here, expanded my presence at Yardbarker, got some freelance job with the Athletic and Bleacher Report, and still write for PensBurgh at SBNation.
At times it has been a lot and overwhelming, but over the past few months I have learned how to balance the workload, balance the hours, balance the jobs, and things are actually working out.
On a personal note I have also learned boundaries and how to stand up for myself and treat myself. I have made time for my mental health and not let it bring me down. I am proud of all of that. Personally and professionally. So thanks for being a part of that.
My plan is to keep building on all of those things in 2023 while also being far more active here more regularly. Thanks again for all of your readership and support. Would not be doing this without all of you reading and interacting here, all of my writing spots, and on Twitter.
Happy New Year to you all.
Happy New Year, Adam! Thanks for all your hard work!!
