Offensive improvement is slow for Steelers but it is there
There is room for plenty of more but the differences are still significant.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are 3-0 and there are a lot of opinions on that going into this week.
It is not sustainable the way they are winning.
They have not played anybody yet.
The offense still stinks.
There might be a lot of truth to each of those statements. Maybe it is not sustainable, and for most teams I might even completely agree with that, but the Steelers always seem to have a knack for winning these ugly rock fights. They almost seem to prefer it. They are comfortable with it. They drag a team down to their level and beat them with experience.
As far as competition goes, well, buddy, this is the NFL. Any Given Sunday rules apply here. You are not Alabama scheduling Northwest Missouri State and putting a free win on your schedule. Everybody is good. Everybody is capable of beating everybody else. Most games are decided by one possession and sometimes somebody below you in the standings is going to get you. That unimpressive Atlanta team they beat in Week 1? The next week it went on the road and beat Philadelphia, and it probably should have beaten Kansas City the week after that. That horrid, rancid Denver team? After losing to the Steelers it went on the road and absolutely throttled a Tampa Bay team that was an early-season darling through two weeks. The Los Angeles Chargers came into Acrisure Stadium undefeated with a top defense and was the early talk of the league.
Were they completely healthy? No. They also lost some key players during the game. But the Steelers are not completely healthy either and also lost some some key players. All offseason all we heard about with the Steelers was how awful the quarterback situation was and how bad the roster was. If that was all accurate, their opponents should be looking at *them* as the easier games on their schedule.
You do not get free wins in the NFL and you do not apologize for winning ugly. You just have to win.
As for the offense?
Well, it is still not particularly good or where you want it to be if you have any hope of seriously competing for a Super Bowl.
That does not mean it is not better and showing signs of improvement. Perhaps even serious improvement.
It is absolutely better, and there is real improvement there. Even if it is slow and small.
Let’s talk about it.
