NHL Power Rankings, player safety (again!) and All-Star game changes
We have a lot to get to today.
Hello and Happy Tuesday. Here is what we are discussing today.
The NHL Power Rankings!
The continued genius minds at the NHL Department of Player Safety.
And some more big changes to the NHL All-Star Game.
NHL Power Rankings: We have a new team at the top.
1. Los Angeles Kings. The Kings are the best combination of results and process in the NHL right now. Second best points percentage in the NHL, dominant 5-on-5 numbers and possession number, and simply a fantastic looking team. All while not really having a top-tier goalie.
2. Colorado Avalanche. One of the best records in the league and their starting goalie, Alexander Georgiev, has a sub-.900 save percentage. This team is a force. Just wait until Georgiev figures it out.
3. New York Rangers. Power play. Goaltending. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. They have one of the best records in the league and Adam Fox has missed half of their games so far.
4. Boston Bruins. And heeeeeeeeeeere comes the regression. After starting the season 9-0-0 the Bruins are 5-4-2 in their past 11 games.
5. Vegas Golden Knights. They have also hit a little bit of a slump, but I am really impressed with how their goaltending has played.
6. Dallas Stars. The top-line gets all of the attention here but Wyatt Johnston is on his way to being a stud. He already is.
7. Florida Panthers. Matthew Tkachuk has to be due for a major goal-scoring binge here sometime soon. That 3.4 percent shooting percentage is not going to continue for much longer.
8. Vancouver Canucks. I think they are setting themselves up for a major second half slide, but for now …. here they are. There have been 100 teams since 2005-06 to win at least 14 of their first 22 games. Ninety-one of them made the playoffs. The odds are at least in their favor.
9. Winnipeg Jets. Truly one of the most surprising teams in the league. I still do not fully trust them or think they are a serious contender (especially long-term), but there is enough top-end talent here to at least make them interesting.
10. Detroit Red Wings. Patrick Kane is not going to help them as much as they think he will.
