When I looked at the new head coaching hires around the NHL this season I argued that John Tortorella and the Philadelphia Flyers are a terrible match where nobody is going to end up happy.
I stand by that.
It is not so much a statement on Tortorella as a coach (he has his good qualities; he also has many bad qualities) or even the Flyers as a team, but rather what is going to happen when those two things get thrown together into the same working relationship.
Tortorella is the ultimate competitor. He wants to win and is not going to concede anything, and he is going to demand the most out of every player on his roster. But the Flyers are not built for success right now and are probably going to be lousy.
Even worse: The team has not even arrived at training camp yet and Tortorella is already concerned about the state of the locker room.
