32 Teams, 32 Players: Andrei Svechnikov
We continue to get you ready for the start of the 2024-25 NHL season by looking at Carolina Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov.
We are inching our way toward the start of the 2024-25 NHL season, and as we get closer we are going to highlight one player on each team that stands out for the season. What kind of player? Well, a player that could make a difference, be an X-factor, be on the verge of a breakout, or just simply be a player under the microscope and needing to have a big season.
Basically — which player do I think is the most fascinating on each team.
We are not going in any particularly order and continue today with Andrei Svechnikov of the Carolina Hurricanes.
In a lot of ways Andrei Svechnikov is the perfect representation of the Carolina Hurricanes.
He is an outstanding player.
He has very few, if any, weaknesses.
He is skilled, he has good size, he drives possession, he has a great shot and he posts great underlying numbers.
He basically does everything well, and is also really productive. Give him 82 games and you can confidently pen in him for at least 25 goals and 60 points. He is a first-line player, a borderline All-Star and at $7.75 million per season signed to a pretty fair contract that makes him a great value against the cap. He is also still only 24 years old and should be right in the middle of his prime years in the NHL.
There is a lot to love about him.
But like the Hurricanes as a team, there seems to be a ceiling that keeps getting hit here that just leaves you wanting …. more.
I want to see the Hurricanes break through and play in a Stanley Cup Final after being a top-tier team for the past few years.
I want to see Svechnikov truly break out and have a monster season offensively and turn all of his tools into a total package that sees him become the type of scorer you want from a No. 2 overall pick.
For the Hurricanes to get to that next level as a team, they are probably going to need Svechnikov to reach that next level individually.
We keep waiting for both to happen.
Can this be the season?
