32 Teams, 32 Players: Alexandar Georgiev
We continue to get ready for the 2024-25 NHL season by highlighting one important player on each team, and we continue today with Colorado Avalanche goalie Alexandar Georgiev.
We are inching our way toward the start of the 2024-25 NHL season, and as we get closer we are going to highlight one player on each team that stands out for the season. What kind of player? Well, a player that could make a difference, be an X-factor, be on the verge of a breakout, or just simply be a player under the microscope and needing to have a big season.
Basically — which player do I think is the most fascinating on each team.
We are not going in any particularly order and continue today with Alexandar Georgiev of the Colorado Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche have some question marks this season with a roster that is clearly not as deep as it was when they won the Stanley Cup a couple of years ago.
But it’s still pretty good.
Really good, actually, and it should still be a top team in the Western Conference.
As long as Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen and Cale Makar are in the prime of their careers and playing like top-15 players in the league they are going to have some sort of a chance.
I actually thought about looking at winger Gabriel Landeskog in this spot as he is expecting to return at some point after missing the past two seasons due to a knee injury. That could be a gigantic game-changer for a team that needs some scoring depth up front. But even if he does not return, or returns and is a fraction of what he used to be, the Avalanche already have two years without him in the books. It would be disappointing, sure, but not really a change from what they have been used to dealing with here.
The real X-factor here is still in goal with Alexandar Georgiev. Mainly because we still do not know what type of goalie he is and what sort of impact he will have on this year’s team.
That, more than anything, could dictate what this team’s ceiling is and how far it can potentially go.
Nothing impacts a team more than goaltending, and there is almost no aspect of the sport that is more volatile and unpredictable.
He has two years in Colorado as a full-time starter.
One of them was excellent.
The other? Not so much.
Which goalie are they going to get this season?
Let’s talk about it.
